Created for the Bloomsbury Festival 2025

Memory slides along the ferry line
footsteps on the water
washed away

Memory flies over the ghost of a bridge
footsteps in the air
blown away

Confession:
watch the ebb and flow
the river is changed, renews itself
you are changed, rue yourself

Baptism:
the river washes your feet
anoints your head
washes away your sins

Absolution:
ripped head over heels
up-is-down-is-over-under-down-down
Tempest-tost soul released

Ascension:
high on the bridge
abandoned jacket, worn-out boots
a policeman, white-faced, holds the unsigned note:

“He who dies pays all debts.”
